Dr. Jeng Yen has a PhD in Applied Mathematics and a master in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa after earned his BS in Mathematics from the National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan. In 1994, he joined Army High Performance Computing Center at the University of Minnesota. Currently, he supervises the Robot Interfaces and Visualization Group of Mobility and Robotic System Section at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Since join JPL at 1998, he has been working in research and development of robotic applications for NASA’s Mars missions. His technical expertise in design, development and operation of space robots contributed to the success of many NASA missions. He has led the development of Robot Sequencing and Visualization Program (RSVP) for control and operation of Mars rovers and landers. Dr. Yen has assumed the “Rover Driver” role of 2004 Spirits and Opportunity Rovers and 2012 Curiosity Rover. Through operating the rovers, he has witnessed and contributed greatly to the scientific discovery of the geological history of Mars in the last two decades. He is currently leading Rover Planner operating the Perseverance in the Jezero Crater, Mars, where scientist is searching for the samples with evidence of Martian life. Dr. Yen has also broad and deep involvement with many community groups. He is an active mentor and the founder of the San Marino High School Robotics Club where he has directed the Titanium Robotics Team entering FIRST Robotic Competition annually. He served on the San Marino Unified School District on the Governing Board from 2006 to 2013, where he has devoted to the betterment of K-12 education and the community services
